Pre-Operative Assessment and Planning

Methods of Harvesting

At first, the surgeon injects local anesthesia for mild sedation(option) and scalps of the donor area are shampooed. After this donor area is treated with an antibacterial agent.
There are 4 major techniques of harvesting hair follicles i.e. Strip harvesting, Follicular unit extraction (FUE), Follicular unit transplant (FUT), and Robotic hair restoration. Every technique has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Strip Harvesting

Strip harvesting is a commonly used technique for harvesting hair follicles. In this technique surgeon harvest a strip of skin from a good hair growth area i.e. back of the scalp. Then he/she use a bladed scalpel to remove strips of hair-bearing tissue from the donor site. Size of the excised strip is usually about 1–1.5 x 15–30 cm.
Surgeon dissects each follicular unit grafts from the strip. The surgeon uses binocular Stereo-microscopes to excess fatty tissue and fibrous.
The surgeon uses micro blades to puncture the site. After harvesting will get a thin linear scar on the donor area but it will be covered by your hairs.
The recovery time of the strip harvesting method is 2 weeks (approx).

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

In FUE method the first surgeon uses a scalpel to remove of skin from the back of the scalp. usually, the size of the strip is about 6 to 10 inches long.
After striping skin surgeon closes the area from where the skin was pulled. Then the surgeon and assistant separate the scalp strip into small pieces using a scalpel. The surgeon may split the skin into more than 2000 species.
For hair transplantation surgeon makes small holes in your scalp then he/she insert hairs into the puncture holes, it called grafting.

Follicular unit transplant (FUT)

In FUT technique the first surgeon shaves off you back head hairs then he removes follicles.
After this, you will see small scars in the donor area. As like FUE technique surgeon makes small holes and then he/she inserts hair in holes.

Robotic hair restoration

For harvesting grafts, Robotic hair restoration is the latest technique. For the harvesting of follicular units, this system uses follicular unit extraction / follicular separation technique.
